Lutz Helmig is one of the most renowned entrepreneurs in the European healthcare industry and founder of Horus Finanzholding GmbH and Aton GmbH. The two investment firms have invested in various companies, such as Lufthansa, the airline dba, the engineering services provider Edag, Wüstenrot & Württembergische, the asset managent firm Spiekermann & Co, the private bank Ellwanger & Geiger, and V-Bank.
Prior to that, Dr. Helmig founded Hospitalgesellschaft Dr. Helmig GmbH and the Asklepios Clinics Group. He left the latter and became CEO of Hospitalgesellschaft Dr. Helmig GmbH, which was renamed Helios Kliniken in 1995 and became the largest hospital group in Germany. From 1994 to 1999, Dr. Helmig was CEO of Helios Kliniken, which was sold to Fresenius in October 2005.
Dr. Helmig studied medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. He then obtained his doctorate and licence to practise. He trained as a specialist in surgery/vascular surgery and worked as a vascular surgeon at the Oberwald Clinic in Grebenhain.
