About Prof. Dr. Kai Gniffke

Professor Kai Gniffke is the director of Südwestrundfunk (SWR), was CEO of ARD, the world’s largest broadcasting association, and is one of Germany’s most influential broadcasting executives and journalists.

Before his role as head of ARD, Professor Gniffke was Editor-in-Chief of ARD, which includes Tagesschau, Tagesthemen, and tagesschau.de, among others, after having served as Second Editor-in-Chief of ARD. Prior to that, he was regional political correspondent for SWR, after having worked as a final editor for the television news of the then Südwestfunk (SWF) in Mainz. Mr. Gniffke began his career as a reporter at SWF, where he also worked during his studies.

Prof. Gniffke studied political science, sociology, and public law at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and Goethe University Frankfurt and received his doctoral degree from the latter.
